My grandmother was a capital-r Reader. If there were prizes for book consumption, she could have contended for top honors. She was happiest, she always said, with a stack of books beside her chair. Sometimes she even read two at a time (shocking!). She was a homebody in her later years, and I was her main book supplier. Usually, I read the books I chose for her: Catherine Cookson, Maeve Binchy, and anything with a bit of nineteenth-century hardship and a splash of romance. None of the modern stuff appealed to her, but a tale in which a family had to share a single potato beside a fire about to flicker out in midwinter--now that floated her boat. She'd often say, "What's wrong with me that I like people starving and suffering in my stories?" And we'd laugh--because it was true. Sometimes she'd write little notes and tape them to the books before returning them: Very Good. Good. A little steamy! Loved, loved, loved! I still have some of these little scra...

Book News & Book Fest Hello, all!   Thanks for stopping by!  I've been working very hard all summer (and early fall) to finish my newest story, and the exciting news is that I'm only a chapter or two from typing THE END.  I've enjoyed writing this one very much, and look forward to sharing it with you soon. Hint: It contains elements of The Three Bears and Cinderella, and it's set in the future.    If you're a Pennsylvania person, you might want to visit me at the Wellsboro BookFest on October 13. Launch Party and Beyond Hi, all! I thought I'd share some photos from the launch party we had for The Gold-Son on June 30th. The James V. Brown Library of Williamsport, PA kindly allowed us to use their beautiful media room for our enchanted woods-themed festivities. A Leprechaun showed up for the party, courtesy of Dad's Garage Art. Thanks, Wayne Parfitt! Pot o' gold cupcakes sprouting rainbows, and other goodies! Bat cookies in honor of our Faerie-bat friend Copper Meringue mushrooms, chocolate mushrooms, shamrock cookies, forest berries... The author read aloud and then gave out fabulous prizes! Yes, I wanted to show off my cute dress. Author & her wonderful husband--who gave her the shiny tree. Not part of the party--but amazing gifts my publisher sent me to celebrate the book's release. Skyscape is the best!  Also...great news! Audiofile Magazine gave the audio book their Earphones Award for outstanding audio book...

The Gold-Son is coming soon!   It's finally June & the release of The Gold-Son is mere weeks away as I write this! I've started preparations for the fantastic launch party I'll be having at the James V. Brown Library on Friday, June 30th. We're going to have lovely snacks at this enchanted forest themed party, as well as a book signing, prizes, and a reading from the book! I hope you can join us!     In celebration of the release, I will be giving away a signed copy of the novel. Novels for Your TBR List   Here's a shocking confession: I read A LOT of books. Also (and sometimes unfortunately), I rarely read a book anymore without critiquing and editing every page in my head--so there are fewer and fewer books I fall in love with. With that in mind, the following are books I've read lately that I greatly enjoyed. I think these are all considered Young Adult novels, and each has some fairy tale or folk tale qualities. Old Year, New Year Hi! It's been a while, and it's all the Leprechaun's fault. Since the end of October, I've been doing a lot of work on The Gold-Son (young adult novel containing Leprechauns, to be released June 21, 2017). Editing, reworking, adding, polishing, yelling at the computer--all that fun stuff--consumed much of my time and energy (and helped me fail at NaNoWriMo for the first time in eight years!). But along the way, I learned so much and I grew as a writer, and I'm grateful for the experience. I'm pleased with how the book has turned out, and I can't wait to share it with you. Also, the cover (created by fantastic artist M.S. Corley, who did The Mermaid's Sister's cover) is breathtakingly gorgeous! In mermaid news...
