Giant News (including news about a book containing a giant)

Warm greetings from the frosty mountains of Pennsylvania! I have BIG NEWS! Ready?  My YA fantasy (with a dash of science fiction) Gretchen and the Bear will be published May 27, 2020 by the lovely folks at WordCrafts Press! Super bonus excitment--the talented M.S.Corley, who created the covers for The Mermaid's Sister and The Gold-Son, is on board to design the cover for GATB. Here's a sneak peek at the story: Visiting dangerous Faerie-infested Britannia is the last thing sixteen-year-old Gretchen wants to do when she finally trades life on a dreary orbiting station for life on the verdant regenerated Earth. After all, no human who’s dared to visit the Faeries’ land has ever returned. But when her stepsister sneaks off to meet a Faerie boyfriend, Gretchen’s stepmother forces her to choose: risk death to rescue the runaway, or forfeit her father’s life. Lost deep in the Faeries’ forest, Gretchen meets three Bearfolk—Fae who can shift from humans to bears. Kindh...

Looking Back at 2019 (and hoping it isn't chasing me)

2019 in Review Well, it was A Year.  I hope 2019 was kind to you. I hope you found joy and created things and made someone smile. I hope you laughed hard enough to snort a few times and that all your tears were the happy kind. It was not my favorite year, to be honest. I lost my dear grandmother and faced some trials that stretched me to my limit.  But here I am, a little weary but still hopeful, determined to be and to do better in the days ahead. I met lots of nice readers at the book events I attended, and I had a great time with writer friends at the Realm Makers Conference and the St. Davids Writers' Conference. I drank a unicorn frappe (DO NOT ATTEMPT), explor...

June 2015 Adventures

I attended back to back writers' events in June: UtopYA Con in Nashville followed by the St. Davids Writers' Conference in Grove City, PA. Two very different experiences! UtopYA was a convention for Young Adult speculative fiction fans & writers, and it was a swirling extravaganza of hundreds of people, shiny books, panel discussions, swag giveaways, and signings. To top it all off, I finally met my editor in person. About 60 people attended St. Davids, spending four days on a peaceful, beautiful, rainy college campus, taking classes, making friends & connections, & eating way too many desserts. Here is photographic documentation!   One of the UtopYA exhibition halls. The lovely Rysa Walker shared her table with me & 3 other Skyscape suthors.     A few of the authors of Skyscape Publishing:  Jacqueline Garlick, Theresa Kay, Alys Arden, Rysa Walker, & me!   Selfie with Mr. Pew of Grove City College...
